Room Reveal...Asian Zen Master Bedroom

Right now, I am in Carlisle, PA for a mini vacation while my husband is training for a new job.  I have a day of thrifting and antiquing set up for tomorrow.  I can't wait.  It should be a lot of fun.

I finished up the bedroom literally a few hours before we left for Carlisle.  Here is what the bedroom looked like before, which was not as bad as the mudroom was.

We removed the old stained carpet and replaced it with a medium brown wood laminate.  The closet in the above picture was removed completely, so that we could move the bed against the wall that had the dresser.  We doubled the size of the closet by installing a whole wall of wardrobes against the wall where the bed use to be (see first photo).

Here is what the room looks like now.

We installed 2 smaller wardrobes on each side of the bed for additional storage space since we eliminated one of the dressers.  The doors were hacked by cutting the bottoms off to act as side tables and we attached shoji screens to the fronts of the doors.

This is the existing bed.  We attached more shoji screens to the back of the bed to create a more dramatic headboard.  To get that built in look, we attached a wide piece of wood to the top of each wardrobe and installed lighting.

This is the wall of wardrobes.  I made the curtains awhile back to hide the closet.  This post goes over how I installed them.

Here is a better look at the built in Dresser/Bookcase combo that I blogged about here.

The feature wall with the new bamboo mirror.  Find out how I made it here.

My husband claims that I have to decorate each and every inch of a room.  This is proof, I guess.  I thought the inside of these wardrobes needed something.  I decided to paint the wire baskets red and add a fabric covered cork board inside each door to pin clothing ideas or receipts for clothes that might need taken back.  I will post a tutorial on how to do the cork board here soon.

Here is a breakdown of where everything came from:

I am so relieved that I have another room done.  The living room and office have already been started.  I hope that these rooms don't take as long as the two finished rooms did.  We are also planning on doing the kitchen soon due to the lack of storage space now that we closed our restaurant.

Thanks for stopping by and please come back soon.

    1. Thanks Tuula. I know this style isn't for everyone and I have heard that red isn't good for a bedroom, but I assure you that because all of the windows are blocked by furniture it is pitch black in there at night and very easy to fall asleep.
