Dry Erase Board Desks for Less

I am back inside today to show you another project from my office/craft room.

When I bought this Expedit desk from Ikea, it looked like this.

EXPEDIT Desk IKEA The table stands level on uneven floors with the help of adjustable feet.

I bought it in black, but decided to paint it another color.  So I did.  Then I changed my mind and painted it white.  Then I thought maybe I could try out that idea paint and make it a dry erase board.  It is a cool idea, but $30 for a small amount of paint is a little too expensive for me.  Plus, I wanted to paint all 3 of the desks that are in my office and I wasn't sure one can was enough.  So, after a little more research on the web I found out that thrifty white board paneling can be used as a dry erase board too.  Off to Home Depot I went.

The price may vary at different stores.  I am not sure.  But $12 to cover 3 desk tops was definitely in my price range.

Home Depot will even cut it for you.  I gave them the dimensions for the 3 desks I had and they cut it at no extra charge.

Bring them home and put them in place and you are done.  The board I added to the side was attached with Loctite Power Grab.

I put a calendar on the side and a to do list and shopping list on the top.

This is my husband's desk.  He can write notes down on the desk top when he is on the phone.  Phone numbers, appointments, etc.

This is my desk.  I write down songs that I want to buy and amounts I want to remember.  It is very handy.

  12. This is so neat. I have an Expedit desk, too (in white) and might try this on the side. My girls would love drawing on the furniture!!! I think I'd end up with marker all over my arm/sleeve if I put it on the top!
