Music and Fashion Inspired Office/Craft Room Reveal

Today is room reveal day.  3 rooms down, 3 to go.  (Really 2 rooms to go, but I decided to make some changes to our bedroom so I am including that)  First, let's take a look at the way this room looked before.

When I first moved into my husband's house this room was being used as a storage room.  He bought the house from his sister and this room was his niece's bedroom.  Hence the pink and blue color scheme.

This was also being used as the dog's room.  One day it dawned on us that the dog's room/storage room was bigger than the room we were using as an office.  So we decided to swap those 2 rooms.

The storage room turned into my photography studio office.  We took out the pink carpet and put in white laminate flooring and painted the walls an electric blue.

Then, I moved my photography studio into a commercial building and took most of the furniture with me.  That turned into this chaotic mess.  Me and chaos don't go so well together.

Now the office is super organized and a fun room to be in.

This is my side of the office.

I made both heart canvases.  I used 8x8 canvas that I painted black and white stripes on.  I painted a red heart on the one and glued assorted red buttons inside the heart.  My husband cut the hearts out of assorted red paint chips that I had laying around and I glued them in the shape of a heart.  2 very easy pieces of art.

This is the wall of Expedits from Ikea.  It is made of 1 4x4 (with Expedit Desk attached), 3 2x4 and 2 2x2 Expedits.  It adds so much storage space to our house.  Everything is neatly organized.

If you have been following along with my blog, you know that I have made several doors for my Expedits using canvas.  These are the last ones.  I cut up antique yard sticks, painted them and glued them in a chevron pattern.

You can find the other Expedit doors here:

I tried to combine all of our interests into this room.  Music, fashion, traveling and sports were all incorporated into this room some way or another.

This is my husband's side of the office.

My husband requested a Nato Alphabet to be incorporated into his side of the room.  I came up with this.  I made it in Photoshop and had it printed at a local photo printer.

I covered our plain black mouse pad with chevron fabric from Fabric.com.  I followed a tutorial by Going Home To Roost

The cabinets beside the desks are Billy's from Ikea with Billy Morebo doors that I lined with various Gwen Stefani and No Doubt magazine clippings.  (Yes, I am a little obsessed)

Our mini gallery wall consists of a mix of travel art and craft art.  The car pictures are of my husband in one of his past cars.  Driving is a major hobby for him.

I DIYed all the art in the gallery except for the car pictures and cork board map.  The keyboard art was made with 2 old keyboards I had in our garage.  I popped off the keys and glued them to a piece of scrapbook paper.  The zipper art is just 7" zippers in every color glued to a 8x10 canvas.

The California Dreamin art was inspired by The Love Nerds Mod Podge Canvases.  I decided to try out Maggie's tip on using an acrylic sealer on ink jet prints and it did work for the most part.  I must have missed a spot with the sealer so the ink smeared in one little spot but it isn't that noticeable.  The other problem I had is that my printer tends to be streaky.  You can't tell in this picture but there was a couple streaky lines on the edge of the picture.  I love California so I decided to make this to remind me that maybe some day I can move there.

The melted crayon art is everywhere on the Internet.  I generally don't like to do what everyone else is doing, but because I was going with a rainbow color scheme I thought it fit perfectly in this room.  I had a heck of a time with it though.  After failing twice with the hair dryer method, I went with a different approach.  I literally melted the crayons with a lighter and dripped the melted crayon down the canvas.  I really like the way it turned out.  It just took like 4 hours to do.

Way back, when I started the office, this chalkboard wall with sticky note to do lists was the first thing I did.  This is where I keep track of everything that needs done decor wise in our house.  (Am I the only one with a list this big?)

This is the music section of the office.  Eventually, I am going to add to my instrument collection.  Since I have lost my clarinet in one of my many moves, I plan on getting another one.  I would like to play again.  I also would like to learn how to play the violin.  If you spotted my Christmas list posted in my office, you will see the clarinet and violin are both on the list.

I framed some of my old sheet music from my old high school band days.

Another DIY in this room, are these dog pillows.  I purchased 4 Granat Pillows from Ikea and made covers with minky cuddle fabric from Fabric.com.  There are tons of tutorials out there for making an easy envelope pillow case.  Delia Creates has a really good tutorial that you can follow.

Here are all my little puppy dogs enjoying their pillows.

The rug is by Flor.  Parallel Reality - Rainbow is the name of the tiles.

On the way out of the room, you will notice that the other side of the door is also chalkboard and my husband (the skilled man that he is) drew the faux molding onto the door.  I plan on doing all our doors with chalkboard paint and changing the design of the door every once in a while.  I get bored easily.  So this will help.

I absolutely love this room.  I know I say this after every reveal, but this is my favorite room so far.  I love all the bold colors against the black walls.  It is super organized too.  I am definitely a person that likes for things to be in the right place.  Come back on Friday to see all the organizational aspects of the room.
